Chinese girl says she is in love with me

September 12, 2025

Dear Pastor,

I am a young man and I am working hard for my daily bread. My parents were very poor; I grew up with them living in a board house.

I have one sister and we used to share a room and bed. But as I grew older, my father told me that I would have to sleep on the mattress that was leaning in the corner of the bedroom, because I should not be sleeping with my sister on the same bed. It did not bother me; I started to sleep on the floor on the mattress.

I did well in high school. My parents made me wash my own khaki uniforms. My mother would wake us up early to get us ready for school. My father left every morning, except on Sundays, for his field. We always had ground provisions. Sunday dinner was special. It was chicken and rice and peas. My mother taught my sister and I to cook. I washed my own clothes, but my sister ironed them. We went to church every Sunday. I did not miss school unless I was ill, and that was very rare. My father saved enough money, and with the help of his friends and one of his brothers in America, he was able to build a concrete house with a bathroom. The kitchen was detached from the house.

My sister and I got good passes and I got a job with a Chinese man in a shop. He had a girl working there, but she could hardly speak English, so I used to teach her; she fell in love with me. The Chinese man told me that I am a black boy, so I must not think that I can get his daughter. He said he had somebody for her already. The girl told me that the man is in China, but she didn't want him. I have been working with this man for two years. One day I took the courage to ask the girl for a kiss and she told me no. I asked her why and she said she cannot kiss. I promised to teach her.

One day when her father was outside dealing with some business, I kissed her, and she said, "I like it." From that day the girl and I became very close, so I begged her for sex, and she agreed. Her father realised that we were too close, so he fired me. The man from China came to Jamaica, but she refused to marry him. Now she is always calling me and telling me that she loves me, and she wants to get away from her father. I don't know what to do. Kindly give me your help.

L.D.

Dear L.D.,

I know that some people will not agree with what I am about to say to you, but I will say it nevertheless.

You are a poor, black boy and you have nothing. Stay away from this girl. I would not like to hear that you were hurt because a girl of a different race and culture loved you and you were excited, and you did not take heed from her father to leave her alone.

I knew some Chinese people. One of their daughters married a black man, but he was never fully accepted in the family. Her parents cursed her disgracefully because she married a black Jamaica man. Keep out of that family. I could say more to you, but I believe a word to the wise is sufficient.
