Khago wants a solid partner for D’Angel
Dancehall artiste Khago got up close and personal on Wednesday, declaring to THE WEEKEND STAR that fellow entertainer and collaborator D'Angel deserves nothing short of a solid partner.
The two artistes recently teamed up on their single, Personal, and the visuals take things up a notch, with Khago ripping up images of D'Angel's exes, dancehall giants Bounty Killer and Beenie Man, while vowing that no man will stop his plans to see the 'Dancehall First Lady' "get rich".
When asked whose idea it was to build such a plot, Khago muttered: "Mi nuh know," sparking laughter.
D'Angel then explained, "My room was decorated with images that Khago just didn't appreciate, suh him just decided to tear dem down cause him seh him nuh waah nuh man to di doll. But him seh him nuh waah see mi wid no new man suh mi put up di old one dem and him still vex."
Making it clear that her exes are firmly in the past, D'Angel told THE WEEKEND STAR that she is open to dating.
"I'm over them. That's just a flashback and they're tore down now - at last. So I'm open now to date... it's just a music video and we [Khago and I] are gonna continue to do great music," she said.
For Khago, his regard for D'Angel goes beyond music.
"On a serious note, Angel a one good woman - good friend and good sister - Angel just good. And people will use music and [entirely] write off a person but nothing's perfect... she deserve somebody nice," he said.
He said the chemistry between them is undeniable, though he insists he has held back to protect the music.
"[Mi know] she have a crush pon mi because di three nicest man God mek - Jesus, Satan and Khago - and Angel cyaah resist di charm," he joked. "But true mi know seh it ago mash up di music ting, mi just a mek she rich out and afta she get rich, and maybe mi see she have one next man, mi just get jealous and start mash up it. Mi waan supm fi jealous over fuss."
The video, he added, has been getting positive feedback and was fun to shoot.
"It sweet mi when mi a guh upstairs and see Beenie [Man] pon di wall and pop him off and [Bounty] Killa face cross afta mi and Angel kiss," he said. "But a di first mi shoot one video weh mi 100 per cent love."
He shared that he was shy during the romantic scenes and was a probably a little too excited.
"A hold dem affi hold mi dung fi Angel get di first clip. When dem finally convince mi, she waah look inna mi eye and mi a seh 'No Angel, a yuh eye dem a di problem wid man - a it man love'," he said.
Personal was produced by Khago's Long Chain Global label with Juna-Vill Records, and directed by Chubby and Lando. Released last Saturday, it has already pulled nearly 160,000 views, close to 7,000 likes and almost 1,000 comments on D'Angel's Vevo channel.
The duo performed the track last weekend, leaving both artistes overwhelmed.
"A she affi a calm mi dung because mi get so excited. Remember a 13 years dem lock mi out enuh - dem lock up [Vybz] Kartel and lock me out suh di two a wi a feel di same kinda emotions. My own even rougher because me out and a duh a bag a ting and nutten naah work suh it stress yuh out wicked, suh when mi get dah big song deh - mi just happy," he said.
For D'Angel, Khago, "is a column inna music". "Music and yuh [Khago] gimmie butterflies ," she said.
D'Angel is looking forward to more performances and examples of unity and success.
"[We're] leading by example and proving that as 'underdogs', we can do it, because we got nothing but raw talent and people love what we're doing. So we just can't wait to be on the world stage," D'Angel said.
