Two policemen charged with collecting a $3,000 bribe from a motorist during a traffic stop are set to be sentenced in the St Catherine Parish Court on April 9.

Constables Marlon Hamilton and Romaine Boothe were found guilty on February 17, of soliciting and accepting a bribe.

Their bail of $650,000 each has been extended until sentencing.

Reports are that on August 13, 2023, the officers were on duty along the Nelson Mandela Highway in St Catherine when they approached a vehicle being towed. They allegedly solicited $3,000 from the motorist.

The matter was reported to the Inspectorate of Professional Standards Oversight Bureau (IPROBE), which launched an investigation. Following the probe, Hamilton and Boothe were charged and made numerous court appearances until the matter was tried.
