FOLLOWING an efficient 5-0 hammering of Spanish Town Police at Stadium East on Monday, Cavalier FC's assistant coach Colin Wilson said they were eager to end their four-match losing streak in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL).

"We did a lot of training in scoring goals because that has been the problem we've had. So coming into this game we wanted three points and a lot of goals," noted Wilson.

Cavalier got all five goals in the second half, with strikes from Jerome McCleary (51st minute), Jeovanni Laing (55th), Christopher Ainsworth (62nd), Chad James (67th) and Damarley Williams (89th).

The win lifted Cavalier (29 points) back into the top six (sixth place) ahead - on goal difference - of Arnett Gardens FC, who are also on 29 points.

"We told the guys we have to be in the top six and we came here with that aim to get back in the top six," Wilson added.

Cavalier should have taken the lead after just two minutes but Kimarley Scott kicked straight to goalkeeper Glenroy Samuels from seven yards, and with Dwayne Allen wide open at the far post.

The two teams slugged it out afterwards, with Cavalier having the better looks at goal.

In spite of Cavalier creating the better chances, Sean Cato put a chance just wide for Spanish Town Police in the 18th minute.

Moments later Scott headed over from a free kick as Cavalier continued to create openings, and around the half-hour mark they had a long spell of possession which culminated with Adrian Reid forcing a diving save from Samuels, after shooting from the top of the box.

Three minutes into the second half, Police thought they had the opening goal, but Andre Clennon was adjudged to have handled Chevon Walters' header.

However, Cavalier would go ahead in the 52nd minute when Allen found McCleary inside the box and he calmly slotted past Samuels.

Captain of the team, Laing, would add a second goal four minutes later, after a bit of skill and a striker's finish to complement.

Ainsworth made it 3-0 after he found enormous space and time in the area, before hammering a shot past Samuels.

Cavalier continued to ride their momentum and James turned home Allen's misplaced shot from six yards to make it 4-0.

Williams then rounded off the performance with a powerful strike past Samuels in the 89th minute.

Spanish Town Police's head coach Oneil Thompson said they had a meltdown in the second half.

"It's a game of 90 minutes plus. We had a good first half and we had some breakdowns in the second phase. We had some turnovers that led to some goals. We have to go back to the drawing board and work on the areas we think we had a breakdown," he said.
