Mico adds basketball to intercollegiate domination
The Mico University College's dream run in intercollegiate sports continued on Friday night at G.C. Foster College.
After seeing their peers winning four netball titles and two football titles, it was the turn of the men's basketball team.
no disappointment
They did not disappoint in the Division two finals, as they romped to an easy 64-37 triumph over Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI).
Unbeaten in the preliminary round where they topped the standings with a perfect 15 points, Mico advanced to the finals via a walkover over Brown's Town Community College which forfeited the match.
Mico got off to a good start. Led by good shooting from Tammy McDonald, Jason Walker, and Andre McDonald they controlled the first two quarters, leading 16-10 and 32 -20.
Despite a better third quarter effort from CMI, where they were only outscored by two, 10-8 and in which Mico led 42-28, it was a different affair in the final quarter as Mico dominated, outscoring their opponents 20-7.
Captain McDonald, with 24 points, along with Walker with 14 points, were top scorers for the champions, with Ashani Nembhard being their top rebounder with four.
For the losers, Rekel Woodhouse and Ackeem Brown scored 12 points each.
