Man wanted for murder in USA runs off in Jamaica
A US fugitive who ran off in Jamaica after coming to the island on a cruise ship was arrested by lawmen in Brown's Town, St Ann, last Saturday.
The man, Garfield Sewell, 20, was among 1,700 passengers who arrived on Carnival Sunrise cruise ship, which attracted controversy after it was allowed to dock in Ocho Rios, St Ann, on Monday, September 13, which was a no-movement day.
He arrived under the name 'Eric Lott', and did not board the vessel for its departure.
Police said that Sewell, of Atlanta, Georgia, is wanted for murder and aggravated assault in the United States of America.
Members of the Jamaica Fugitive Apprehension Team, the Area Apprehension Team, US Marshalls and other US investigators pursued Sewell for 12 days and apprehended him about 4:10 p.m. in St Ann.
He has since been charged for breaches of the Immigration Act and is scheduled to appear in the St Ann Parish Court today.
