UWI investigating sale of fake degrees

January 22, 2021

The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, has launched a probe into the sale of certificates feigning the identity of undergraduate and post graduate degrees conferred by the institution.

"We wish to advise employers, educational institutions and all others concerned to be vigilant and on the alert for these non-genuine documents," a statement from the UWI read.

Noting that the matter is quite concerning, UWI has urged those who may come into possession of the counterfeit documents to report the matter to the Fraud Unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

According to the university, all certificates conferred by the University have security features that guarantee authenticity.

"We encourage any organisation in doubt of the legitimacy of degrees or certificates to contact our Examinations Sections for verification of same," a statement from UWI continued.

The Examinations Sections can be contacted at: 876-935-8855-60 or email us at: examinations@uwimona.edu.jm.
