The Department of Correctional Services is trying to locate relatives of Leroy Codner, an inmate who died while in state care at the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre, downtown Kingston.
Codner died after a prolonged illness but is yet to be buried because the Department of Correctional Services has exhausted all internal measures to locate any of his relatives.
In an advertisement in The Sunday Gleaner on October 13, the dapartment appealed to relatives of Codner or anyone knowing his relatives and whose last known address was Liberty District, St Ann to get in touch with the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre.
Codner was born on November 10, 1962, and had been incarcerated for about 15 years, during which time it is alleged that he had no visitors.
The newspaper advertisement was a last resort by the Department of Correctional Services to contact Codner's relatives, if it is unsuccessful, the department will have him buried.
